When Drake released the music video for his single "God's Plan" in 2018, he surprised a then University of Miami undergraduate student with a $50,000 scholarship.

As Blavity previously reported, Destiny Paris James, who was raised in a single-parent household, went on to graduate and pursue her master's degree at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and she's been updating her followers on her journey.

James recently posted a TikTok video to share that she had her first Ted Talk, joined Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and started her career as a community engagement coordinator.

In the TikTok video, she also shared that had experienced being a broke, depressed college student.

In Drake's 2018 music video, the introduction explained the concept of the video — the record label gave Drake close to a million dollars to shoot the video but, instead, he scaled down the production and gave Miami residents a financial blessing.

In a 2018 interview, James said she experienced financial and personal hardships while she was an undergraduate student.

“When I had a certain bill coming up, I would literally obsess over when the pay period starts and ends,” she said, The Miami Hurricane reports. “I would try to squeeze in as many hours and go to my WorkDay and write down all my hours and see how big my check was going to be.”

She said she was told of the opportunity to appear in a video about alumni donations before she was surprised by Drake walking into the room with a check.
