Twitter users are shaking their heads at comedian Preacher Lawson for fumbling the opportunity of a romantic relationship with a Miss Ghana runner-up. Lawson took to TikTok to explain, in detail, how the pair’s first date was. And from his account, it wasn’t an affair to remember.

The comedian explained in a since-deleted clip that he saw a woman, whose name appeared to be Afua, on the street and was immediately struck by her beauty.

“You know how you walk by somebody and you like, [sniff] that smell, like, fine?” he asked viewers.

He ran over to her and the two exchanged Instagram handles. They spoke on the platform later that day and made plans to get something to eat the next day.

The woman reached out to him to confirm their date a few hours before they agreed to meet up. According to Lawson, she threw some shade at him for not confirming the date himself — behavior he felt was a “red flag.”

Fast-forward to their rendezvous, and Afua was 10 minutes late. Lawson was not a happy camper.

“She’s 10 minutes late and I’m mad,” he said in the video, adding that he called a friend to vent. He then told his friend that Afua is “Miss Ghana or something — she was like second place.”

The woman’s social media confirmed she was a runner-up in this year’s competition.

Then Lawson got into the meat of the date, explaining pretty much everything that alarmed him or went wrong (which, according to his account, seemed like everything).

“She just said some things that made me think she’s crazy,” he said, explaining that her comments about her plans for the future and affinity for sleeping rubbed him the wrong way.

But what really turned the comedian off was Afua not thanking him for paying for their meals.

“That was really bothering me that she didn’t thank me,” he said.

Later, Lawson tried to finesse a kiss from the beauty pageant participant, to which she said that he’ll have to “chase” her a little bit before getting that honor. Her response baffled him.

“Tell me in the comments section what she did to make me chase her,” he asked viewers. “Besides her being pretty, what did she do?”

After the events of the date started to get some attention on social media, Afua spoke out and shared her side of the story. She added that she would have liked Lawson to confirm the date himself since he was preparing to travel the next day.

The Ms. Ghana runner-up acknowledged that she was late and apologized to the comedian.

“I do think it’s rude and disrespectful to waste people’s time and part of that is being late, so we’re on the same page with that,” she said. “We had some banter about it and I took it because he was correct.”

Regarding her plans for the future, she shared that she told Lawson she hoped to travel for work, but not add an extra cost to her husband’s paycheck as he thought. When it comes to her comments about sleeping, she stands by them.

She added that she thought the chasing comment was an inside joke and acknowledged maybe the 31-year-old didn’t receive it that way.

“Clearly it fell flat — I’m not a comedian, I’ll keep my day job,” she said with a giggle.

Afua’s kind response caused viewers to come for Lawson even harder. He then responded to her explanation clip, apologizing and thanking her for her graciousness.

“She was incredibly sweet and kind and didn’t attack me,” he said in the clip.

He went on to explain that as a comedian, he adds some flare to every story he recounts.

“I’m a comedian, so whatever story I tell I’m going to sprinkle my little comedic effect on everything I do,” he said. “Everything I said in my video was true, and everything she said in her video was true, it just seems like it was a misunderstanding.”

He does regret missing her joke about chasing her.

“As a comedian, I should know that,” he shared.

Lawson couldn’t help himself, and added at the end of his video that he’d love a refund for their meals.

“Venmo me my $16.84,” he said, quickly adding that he was joking.

Even though Lawson and Afua seemed to bury the hatchet, Twitter still thinks the comedian played himself. And they can’t stop roasting him for it.

“Lmfaooooo nah a beautiful woman, with a great career helping build blocks for others, takes accountability, sweet demeanor, she’s funny, she can get ready in less than 30 mins, she’s beautiful AND she’s a beauty queen title holder. This is a hell of an L,” a user wrote.

“What went through my mind when he said he was a comedian,” another added.

One user said they hope the Miss Ghana runner-up doesn’t give him a second chance.

He gave a part 2 Chile,” they wrote. “I hope she doesn’t go out with him again. He’s obviously a loser based on his other content.”

And another pointed out this circumstance is proof that in any situation, there’s one person’s side, another’s, and the truth.

“Wow. This really gives new meaning to the phrase ‘two sides to every story.’ smh,” they tweeted.
