In one of his sporadic 140 character press conferences, Donald Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday to pop off on the city of Chicago, threatening federal intervention if it “doesn't fix the horrible 'carnage' going on.”

On Wednesday, TMZ rolled up on Common at LAX to ask his opinion on the President's statement. In his signature cool, calm and centered manner, the Chicago-bred rapper responded to the paparazzi by lauding grassroots efforts to quell the growing epidemic of violence in Chicago and encouraging the community to “take care of our own.” 

“It’s a lot of people already out there organizing and doing things. We need our state and local people to do things. We don’t need that type of mentality,” he said. “I’m not focusing on the President right now, I’m focusing on the people in the city and how we can do it.” When asked if he thought Trump’s approach could bring a bad outcome, Common smirked and rhetorically replied, “You think?”
