Tory Lanez appeared in court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing for his upcoming trial. He faces two felony charges — one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm.
According to TMZ, LAPD Det. Ryan Stogner testified in court that Megan Thee Stallion told officers that Lanez was intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
Stogner said Lanez was standing on the step board of the SUV when he allegedly started firing shots after a Hollywood Hills house party around 4:30 a.m. Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, allegedly sustained a gunshot injury to her foot and shared with officers that she "immediately felt pain to her feet, observed blood, fell to the ground, and then crawled to an adjacent driveway of a residence."
The officer also testified that Pete alleged that Lanez initially attempted to offer her money to silence her from speaking on the incident because he was on probation.
During the hearing, one of the detectives also testified that Lanez allegedly told Pete to "dance b***h" before firing his weapon at her, according to TMZ. A source had previously alleged back in 2020 that Lanez had made the comment during the shooting, according to Complex.
The first witness, an officer who responded to a "shots fired" call, said she was immediately confronted by Pete upon arrival and noticed the weapon was "warm to the touch," implying that it had been recently used, according to Nancy Dillon, a senior reporter for Rolling Stone magazine.

Stogner also testified that Lanez and Pete were involved in some sort of relationship at the time of the shooting.
Tory Lanez’s defense lawyer Shawn Holley questioned Stogner on dispute that led up to the shooting. She said “argument in the car escalated” when it was revealed Tory & Megan had been in some type of intimate relationship.

The two apparently weren't alone in the vehicle that night. Lanez's defense attorney, Shawn Holley, said that Pete's former assistant and friend, who was in the car with them, "had a romantic interest in Tory."
Holley said the other woman in the car, Megan’s former assistant/friend who “had a romantic interest in Tory,” became jealous and claimed Megan “back-doored” her.

Holley also said that her client told police that he was "just trying to protect my girl."
Holley suggested Tory later told police, “I was just trying to protect my girl.” She asked Det. Stogner if he knew about that statement, citing police bodycam footage.

After hearing the testimony from the detective and one of the first responders, the judge decided to take the case to trial, which is scheduled for Jan. 13.
