Corey Hawkins is getting work. Good for him! Not long after being cast as a new member of AMC’s "The Walking Dead," Hawkins, who’s breakout role will likely be playing Dr Dre in the upcoming "Straight Outta Compton" N.W.A. biopic) has booked another gig; this time in the “King Kong” prequel, titled “Kong: Skull Island,” the action tentpole movie which is set up at Legendary Pictures.
No word on what character exactly Hawkins has signed up to play, but he joins a cast that already includes Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing.
Also no details on plot either, but what we do know is that the action/adventure movie will tell a story centered on King Kong’s origins.
Given how widely the projects he’ll be seen in will travel ("Straight Outta Compton," "The Walking Dead" and now a summer tentpole action-adventure movie in "Skull Island"), Hawkins should enjoy tremendous exposure, which will (hopefully) lead to even more work.
"Kong: Skull Island" will be produced by Legendary, with Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod executive producing.
Variety was first to report the news on Hawkins casting.
