As far as web series go, "Department of Paranoia" definitely aims to be something out of the ordinary. The creators of the series, which include director, writer and creator Malik Isasis, writer and producer Lina Cherfas, and producer Dawn Hall, say that their aim is to makes audiences laugh as well as think at the same time.

The show is a political satire about a fictional government agency whose agents investigates conspiracies and respond to calls from all walks of paranoid people in the wake of the tragic World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001.

The series will "follow the work and lives of four agents based in the New York regional office of the DoP. The agents field calls and respond to inquiries from individuals who report suspicious occurrences. The existence of the Department of Paranoia is the central farcical aspect of the story. DoP agents are depicted as real with real world problems, and do not see their work as absurd, even while they sometimes have disdain for the people who call them.

Malik Isasis has a goal: "As a filmmaker I am interested in stories of African American lives, which are too often depicted one-dimensionally. What moves me is creating characters that not only exist in a multicultural world, but also embody the full gamut of human emotions."

He adds: "I am also interested in finding a path to tell stories of political importance. With Department of Paranoia, my writing partners and I created a series that is political as well as accessible, a way for people who hold a wide spectrum of beliefs to consider the societal issues we raise: American hyper-vigilance and angst toward people of color."

And to get their project off the ground – produce and present a 10 episode first season by summer 2016 – the filmmakers have just launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $25,000 to help turn their vision into reality.
