Screen Gems is remaking the 1986 rom-com, About Last Night, with Kevin Hart and his Think Like A Man co-stars, Michael Ealy and Regina Hall, as well as Joy Bryant, all signed up to star.
And now we can add Adam Rodriguez (last seen on the big screen in Magic Mike) to the cast.
Edward Zwick directed the original that starred Rob Lowe and James Belushi as Danny and Bernie, two single men living their lives on the wild side. But when Danny meets Debbie (Demi Moore) at a bar and the two start a relationship with a one night stand, Danny's life takes a different turn. How does this single night become a full relationship, and what effect will this it have on both people and their friendships with their best friends?
Elizabeth Perkins played Joan, Debbie's best friend.
This 1986 film was based on Sexual Perversity in Chicago, the 1974 David Mamet play, which I read was more caustic than the 1986 rom-com, full of profanity and jargon that reflects the working-class, presenting "intimate relationships [as] minefields of buried fears and misunderstandings."
In the upcoming all-black version of the play, Hart will play the Belushi role; while Ealy will play the lead, originated by Rob Lowe.
Regina Hall will play the role originated on film by Elizabeth Perkins, the best friend, who has a love/hate relationship with Hart's character.
And finally Joy Bryant will play Demi Moore's role in the first film.
New cast member Adam Rodriguez will play Joy Bryant's former lover and colleague, who'll likely add some conflict to an already dicy stew.
Will Packer (who also produced TLAM) is producing this as well, with Steve Pink (Hot-Tub Time Machine, Bad Santa 2) directing the film update of the play.
Principal photography is under way.
