Cuba Gooding Jr. will play his final performance in the Broadway revival of Horton Foote’s The Trip to Bountiful on August 27, at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre

Gooding is exiting due to a scheduling conflict; he’s to begin shooting another film shortly.

In his place, Leon Addison Brown will take over, assuming the role of Ludie.

The drama, which officially opened April 23, was met with critical and commercial success and was extended, not once, but twice, and is now officially set to close on October 9.

Gooding’s co-star, Condola Rashad, also left a little early, to begin work on another Broadway show, a re-imagining of Romeo & Juliet, opposite Orlando Bloom

She was replaced in her role by Adepero Oduye.

Nice problems to have all around, won’t you say? You’re already in a hot show that’s been extended twice, but you have to leave because you’re just so busy, and have other projects you need to get ready for.

Leon Addison Brown’s resume includes appearances in the Broadway production of On the Waterfront; the Off-Broadway runs of The Train Driver, The Orphans’ Home Cycle, Two Trains Running, and more.

He begins performances in Bountiful on August 28.

Bountiful was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Actress in a Play (Cicely Tyson), Best Featured Actress in a Play (Condola Rashad), Best Sound Design for a Play (John Gromada) and Best Revival of a Play.

Tyson won the Tony Award in her category.

The cast also includes Vanessa WilliamsTom WopatDevon AbnerCurtis Billings, and Pat Bowie.

Michael Wilson directs.
