Despite the recent passing of the beloved Phife Dawg, A Tribe Called Quest’s first album in 18 years is set to be everywhere on November 11th. That’s three days after we find out whether Donald Trump will sit on the iron throne for the next four years. That means we need this more than anything right now. Not only is this the kind of reunion America deserves, it’s the only one that matters. The album is called We Got It From Here… Thank You For Your Service. Features on this thing look insane. Andre 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Elton John, Busta Rhymes and good old Consequence all make appearances.
But this is more than just one of our legendary comedians and legendary groups taking over SNL, this is about what it means to have two very pro-black entertainment powerhouses joining up to give us a taste of what the world could have been like. What if Dave Chappelle hadn’t jumped ship? What if Tribe never broke up? It feels like these questions will be at least somewhat played with when the two join forces on November 12th.
