Well… as I said in my last post about the project, we haven’t heard much of anything about it since early announcements last summer/fall; and suddenly, I’ve posted 2 items (including this one) about the film, in the last week! That tells me we’re getting closer to seeing something of it – a poster, still images, clips, even a trailer. I’m anxious to see what this group of actors (Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington, S. Epatha Merkerson, Melvin Van Peebles, Diahann Carroll and David Alan Grier), and first-time director (Tina Gordon Chism) have created. I should also note that the film is produced by Tyler Perry.
My last post on this was an announcement of the composer who signed on to score the film (Aaron Zigman); this post features an interview co-star David Alan Grier held yesterday with TV station KCAL 9, CBS’s local affiliate in Los Angeles. David doesn’t reveal a lot about the film, other than talk broadly about the character he plays (Kerry Washington’s character’s father; damn, time flies); but he does reveal something that hasn’t been publicly announced yet. And that is the film’s expected release date. Grier says We The Peeples will be in theaters in January.
Feels like awhile, given that the film began production last summer.
Of course, that could all change in coming months, but, for now, we’ll go with David’s date. Lionsgate is releasing the film, by the way.
Watch the interview below, in which Grier also talks about hustling to stay busy:
