Nominations for the 70th Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA, presented by Megan Fox, Ed Helms and Jessica Alba.
Not many real surprises; these awards lists tend to start to look alike as the season progresses.
It shouldn't be a surprise that there aren't many non-white (specifically, black) nominees, with Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle repping us hard!
Django Unchained is nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama, as well as for Best Screenplay and Best Director; also, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio were both nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but Jamie Foxx was not nominated for Best Actor. Neither were Kerry Washington, nor Samuel L. Jackson. So what does that say – whether about their roles as written, or about their performances?
Also director Peter Ramsey's Rise of the Guardians is nominated in the Best Animated Feature category.
But it's mostly a Hollywood affair, because indies were mostly shut-out. I was suprised to see that the indie darling of the year, Beasts Of The Southern Wild, received zero nominations.
The 70th Golden Globes will be held on Sunday, January 13 and broadcast live at 5pm PST/8pm EST on NBC.
