DeVon Franklin and Fox Family is bringing the Biblical story of the Garden of Eden to film.
As Deadline reports, Franklin is working with the studio to produce The Garden, which will focus on how “the first animals and people discover the meaning of friendship, community and unity in a world this is completely new.”
The film, developed from a pitch by Michael Weiss and Greg Ostrin, will be a mix of live-action and CG animation as well as a musical. The Christian storyline falls in line with Franklin’s prior faith-based films such as Miracles from Heaven and The Star.
“Most of us know a version of the story of the Garden of Eden, but never before has this story been told in such a unique way and it’s the first time we have the technology to see this story come to life like never before,” said Franklin in a statement, according to Deadline.
The film is part of Franklin’s multi-year, first-look deal with 20th Century Fox, which was signed in 2017. Franklin spoke about his focus on faith-based works during the announcement of the deal, saying, “I am deeply committed to producing inspirational content of faith that reaches audiences all around the world…This is why I’m so excited to join [chair and CEO] Stacey Snider, Emma Watts, and the Fox family. I am incredibly grateful for the support from such a legendary team for my vision of creating uplifting content for the masses.”
Snider also spoke of the studio’s excitement to go into business with Franklin. “He has a great taste and a real feel for inspirational stories,” said Snider. “His films will provide a perfect compliment to the great variety of films that Fox already produces.”
