From Ghanaian director/visual artist Nana Agyapong (photo above) comes a documentary titled LA Woman Rising, that she says follows 50 different types of women, waking up the morning and getting ready for the day in the belly of Los Angeles, are are rising to live their dreams.
The filmmaker states:
In the film "LA Woman Rising" I want to explore what it means to be human, what characteristics we share in common in the morning, in order to face each day. Each woman in this film represents the mythology of Los Angeles, all the ideas and cliches […] With my talented group of cinematographers, we were able to capture the spontaneous, raw, natural and real essence of each woman.
Some of the different women who make up the 50, and who Agyapong says will surprise us, include a lawyer, a porn star, a doctor, a homeless woman, a maid, an actress, a painter, and many more, crossing all racial, ethnic and economic lines.
No ETA yet on when we can expect to see the completed film; although Agyapong completed a successful fundraising campaign in September, just 2 months ago, so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.
From the description, what I know of her work, and the teaser below, I'm interested in seeing the whole thing when it's done.
In the end, it may be something that's better suited as a museum art piece than something that ends up in commercial theaters.
