It has been over 10 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed in the Disney classic Enchanted. But not, Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy-tale life. She quickly learns the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), makes Giselle feel more out of place than before. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
Yvette Nicole Brown is a star in the next installment. Ahead of the release of the sequel Disenchanted on Disney+, she spoke with Shadow and Act about why it was perfect timing. She also dishes on other projects she has with the company, having recently finished Season 2 of Big Shot and what she hopes for next in her expansion in partnership with the magical world of Disney. Brown says getting an update on Giselle’s life was the perfect storyline all these years later as it represents growth.
“I think it's the 15th anniversary, November 21st, of the first film. And I think because fans like me wanted it, we've been on Disney like, ‘Oh, let us know what happened to just hear what happened to her,” she told us.
“They get to come back and see what happens after you get your fairy tale. We often don’t get to see that it ends with a fairy tale, and then that’s it. We get to see what happens on the other side of that dream coming true,” she added.
This project is different for her. The versatile actress loved working in a musical, but there’s something she wishes she would have been able to do more of during production.
“My only regret is that I couldn't dance and sing with all of them a little more,” she admits. I really wanted to get up in the do the thing - b ut the thing that is great is I'm a huge fan of everyone in this film, so I got to watch all of it with a front-row seat.”
