DJ Envy and his wife Gia Casey are facing backlash after dressing their 8-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, as Lil’ Kim for Halloween. As the couple posted a video of Brooklyn wearing a Lil’ Kim costume and performing her “Crush On You” song, people on social media said the outfit is inappropriate for a child.
Brooklyn wore a red fur coat, along with a matching red bodysuit complete with cutouts, Bossip reported. She also rocked a red wig, extra-large sunglasses and iced-out chains.
Later in the video, Brooklyn showed off more of her colorful outfits, including the green and blue ensembles and wigs Lil’ Kim rocked in her now-iconic 1996 video. Brooklyn’s siblings also appeared in the clip to show off their own various costumes inspired by Lil’ Kim.

While some people approved of Brooklyn’s costume, most were uncomfortable with seeing the child in a revealing outfit.
“Why she couldn’t do an age appropriate costume ?” one user asked. “Not to mention she wasn’t even alive when lil Kim was rapping so did she want this or did you ? I don’t see a 7 year old going “ daddy I wana be lil Kim for Halloween 😭”

The critics also took issue with an 8-year-old reciting Lil’ Kim’s X-rated lyrics.
“Yikes Envy! this is not it. Your wife could’ve dressed up like Lil Kim and kept the kids out of it. The lyrics are inappropriate,” one person wrote. “Everything about the video is cringe. Just a terrible idea. Parents please do better and let the little girls dress like a princess or the little mermaid. 🙏”

Ignoring the criticism, DJ Envy posted another video of London recreating Aaliyah’s “One In A Million” music video.

One person who did approve of Brooklyn’s performance was none other than Cardi B, who commented, “She took the assignment very serious SHE ATE THAT !!!”
