Rapper DMX is reported to be in grave condition after being hospitalized on Friday due to a drug overdose.
According to TMZ, the artist was rushed to a critical care unit in White Plains, New York, after the overdose triggered a heart attack at his home around 11 p.m. Sources who spoke to TMZ said the rapper is in a "vegetative state" and doctors have cautioned he may not survive.
DMX, who has been battling substance abuse for many years, performed in Las Vegas in 2019 after completing a rehab stint. The artist checked himself into rehab at the time as he was trying to avoid temptations.
"When you fall down, get back up, everyone here has been through some s**t and you never know what God is willing to do for you until you need him to do something for you," the rapper said while performing in Las Vegas.
As Blavity previously reported, the hip hop legend spoke out during an interview on Talib Kweli's People's Party podcast last year, sharing the story of how his crack addiction began. The story involved a man known as Ready Ron, who also introduced DMX to rap at a young age.
"He introduced me to what would be the best part of my life, which would be the rap, but I was also blessed with a curse. The curse aspect of it was, I didn't smoke cigarettes, I didn't smoke weed, I didn't do anything. I was 14 years old," the artist said. "Me and my mans did a robbery one night and it was his birthday and we came back and were splitting the money. He came back with a blunt rolled up and he passed it around. I hit the blunt and I was no longer focused on the money. It f**ked me up. I never felt like that before. I later found out he laced the blunt with crack."
According to the "X Gon' Give It To Ya" rapper, Ready Ron was about 30 years old.
"Why would he do that to a child? He was like 30 and he knew I looked up to him. Why would you do that to someone who looks up to you? A monster was born. I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, especially from someone who supposedly loves you," he said. "The person that I loved was a snake. He acted like a good person. He acted like he loved me."
In July 2020, X faced off with Snoop Dogg in a Verzuz battle. Fans went to social media to express how happy they were to see DMX on the program.

During his struggles in 2019, the 50-year-old icon released a statement on Instagram.
"In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility," the post stated. "He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support."
DMX said he was able to come to terms with his struggles in life when he started speaking about them.
"There were things in my childhood that I just blocked out, but there's only so much you can block out before you run out of space," he said. "You never know when the things you stored away are going to spill out. I had to deal with the things that hurt me that I didn't deal with."
