But there’s a slight catch…
It’s really a shame that most of Spike Lee’s films are not available on blu-ray, but Universal Home Video, in an effort to somewhat correct that oversight, has announced that they will release both Do the Right Thing and his sadly overlooked Clockers on blu-ray on Nov 4th.
Well, that is the UK branch of Universal Home Video.
That’s right. The blu-rays are being relased by Universal Home Video in the U.K. not in the U.S. There’s no explanation from Universal for this decision. Do they think there’s no audience for Spike’s films in the U.S.? Seriously?
The good news though is that Universal blu-ray releases are usually region-free (I have a couple myself), so you can play them on domestic blu-ray players, and not worry about getting an all region DVD player to watch them.
However, the other troubling news is that, according to the announcement of the DVD releases “there are no special features listed for these upcoming releases.“
I assume that they mean “none listed at this time, but will be announced later.” I hope that’s what they mean. How can you release new blu-rays of both films without any special features at all? That’s unthinkable.
