The Met Gala is known as the Oscars of Fashion for a reason. Each year, the invitation-only event features some of the world’s biggest stars to celebrate fashion. Guests are known to go all out for the occasion, and this year was no exception.

The theme for the 2023 Met Gala honored Karl Lagerfeld, who was at the helm of fashion houses such as Chanel, Chloé and Fendi. The German designer was known for his craft, signature ponytail look, and cat Choupette, which he infamously stole from a friend.

Doja Cat and Lil Nas X decided to pay homage to fashion’s most famous cat through their outfits, makeup looks and interactions with interviewers.

The “Say So” singer wore a silver hooded Oscar de la Renta gown adorned with cat ears. Sharp nails and facial prosthetics were part of her makeup look to imitate Choupette. In her interview with La La Anthony on Vogue’s red carpet livestream, she added a few “meows” between sentences.

Doja Cat took the bit to the next level when red carpet correspondent Emma Chamberlain interviewed her.

“What was your inspiration for tonight? And be honest with me. Go into detail,” Chamberlain asked.

The performer replied with several meows to Chamberlain, who played the part and attempted not to laugh.

Lil Nas X also committed to embodying Choupette as best he could. The “Industry Baby” singer wore a Dior G-string covered in silver body paint, pearls, and crystals. Pat McGrath created his makeup look and emulated the animal by featuring cat claws and whiskers.

Lil Nas X struck a few catlike poses on the carpet before approaching reporters and meowing in their mics.

Choupette wasn’t present at the 2023 Met Gala. The cat skipped the event, but its team decided to thank those who sent invites to Paris, France.

“A million thanks to all of you, my fans, animal lovers and daddy’s admirers,” Choupette wrote on Instagram. “You have all shown the kindest enthusiasm and unconditional support; I say MERCI! Many people invited me to walk the red carpet of the Met Gala 2023 in tribute to Daddy, but we preferred to stay peacefully and cozy at home.”
