Doja Cat always understands the assignment regarding jaw-dropping visuals, and the music video for the rapper’s latest single, “Demons,” is no exception. The video features The Addams Family alum Christina Ricci and stars Doja as a demon who haunts the actor.
According to Variety, in the video, Ricci and her family have recently bought a new house. They soon learn their new abode comes with an unwelcome surprise: a sinister creature, played by Doja. The “Say So” rapper creepily crawls on the ceiling of Ricci’s new home as Ricci watches from her bed, terrified.
From the ceiling, Doja raps, “How my demons look?”
Another scene shows a human Doja in a bathroom, bathing in black water and later possessing the demonic form from the start of the video.
The song is a clear departure from Doja’s typical, pop-forward sound. Last year, following the success of “Vegas,” which earned the rapper a Grammy nomination, the 27-year-old told Variety she was looking forward to returning to her rap roots in upcoming music.
“I went in and I was like, ‘Finally, I get to rap again,'” she told Variety. “A lot of people discredit me, so it’s nice to just put another one in the f**king bucket for a great rap song,” something she’s accomplished again with “Demons.”
“Demons” is the latest single from the California native’s forthcoming album Scarlet, set for release on Sept. 22. Other singles like “Attention” and “Paint the Town Red” are also from the project. “Attention” helped the rapper secure five 2023 MTV Video Music Awards nominations. Doja Cat will also perform at the show, Variety reported.
