Doja Cat‘s latest fashion choice got her in hot water. The 27-year-old artist faced backlash after she went to Instagram and posted a photo of herself wearing a shirt featuring an image of disgraced comedian Sam Hyde, known for his neo-Nazi and alt-right beliefs. Hyde holds a rifle in the shirt’s picture.
“At this point I think doja cat is actively trying to get cancelled,” one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, according to Bossip.
Hyde, widely known as a troll, co-wrote the comedy show Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace. BuzzFeed reported the show, which premiered in 2016 on Adult Swim, was canceled after one season because many people complained about the constant bigoted skits featured in the program. Hyde has also been accused of donating to the founder of a popular neo-Nazi website.
“Don’t worry so much about money. Worry about if people start deciding to kill reporters. That’s a quote,” Hyde said when asked about the alleged donation.
After seeing Doja’s questionable wardrobe choice, people say she should have been more aware of Hyde’s disgraceful history.

People also referred to the Grammy winner’s controversial history, including her alleged participation in a seemingly racist chat room on Tinychat in 2020.

After facing an avalanche of backlash, Doja deleted the original photo and uploaded the controversial image again with Hyde’s face cropped out. The singer captioned the post with rows of rolling eyes emoji.
“why are you hiding your shirt? embarrassed that you’re wearing something with a nazi on it ?” one person wrote in the comment section.

Even Doja’s devoted fans seem tired of the singer’s shenanigans.
“Oh girl… I can’t keep defending you 😭,” one fan tweeted.

The controversy comes just after Doja’s fourth studio album, Scarlet, which spawned the hit single, “Paint the Town Red,” the first hip-hop song to top the Billboard Hot 100 this year.
