An Atlanta mom has been reunited with her 1-year-old after someone stole her car with her child inside during a DoorDash delivery in Stone Mountain, Georgia on Thursday morning, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  

DoorDash driver Elizabeth Grisby was making a food delivery at 2 a.m. with her daughter in the car when she noticed something was off. She left the car running and was in the process of making her delivery when she heard her car door open and close.

The suspects took off with her Nissan Armada while her daughter Royalty was still inside. 

The distraught mom met with the police and spoke to the press Thursday morning at 9 a.m., begging for anyone with information to come forward. 

"I always work in this area. I had my keys in my pocket, and the only reason I didn’t lock the door was because I was in a residential, a nice neighborhood. I didn’t think anything like that would happen. As soon as I went to put the food down I just heard someone running and then I heard the door close," Grisby said.

“I just want my baby home. That’s it. I just want her. You can take her to the hospital. You can take her anywhere. You can take her to a store. Just bring her home,” Grisby added, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

An Amber Alert was issued for Royalty by the DeKalb Police Department. 

At a press conference later on Thursday, DeKalb Police Chief M. V. Ramos said someone found Royalty on their porch hours after police arrested a 14-year-old in connection with the car theft. 

"When she came out she found the baby matching the description of baby Royalty. She immediately called the police," Ramos said. "Upon our arrival, we were able to confirm that it was indeed baby Royalty," DeKalb Police Chief M. V. Ramos said, as reported by Fox 5 and 11Alive.  

"Today is a good day, and as you can see I am smiling. And I'm smiling because Royalty has been found and believed to be in good health. It is a good day to know we have a baby back in the arms of its mother, and a subject in custody," Ramos added. 

Ramos said the child was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being given back to Grisby. 

Capt. Brian Deloach said police believe the DoorDash order was simply a ruse to lure Grisby there in order to steal her car. Deloach noted that police found the car in a nearby neighborhood with the license plates changed and the car seat removed. 

Deloach added that police do not believe the 14-year-old suspect knew the 1-year-old was in the car when he took off, according to 11Alive.

The 14-year-old is now facing kidnapping and theft by taking a motor vehicle charges, according to Ramos. The police were in contact with his mother before he was arrested.

In a statement to the New York Post, DoorDash said it had been in contact with Grisby and condemned the incident. 

“We are devastated by this absolutely heinous act and are actively working with the FBI and local law enforcement to help bring this child home safely and the perpetrator to justice,” the company said.

“We are in contact with Ms. Grisby to offer our support and know that this is terrifying for her and her family. We urge anyone with information about this horrific incident to contact 911 immediately,” the statement added.
