Dwyane Wade was on site to celebrate the ninth birthday of his youngest son, Xavier, whom he shares with Basketball Wives cast member Aja Métoyer. In a video posted to Instagram by @TheNeighborhoodTalk, Xavier looks pretty happy surrounded by family, friends and a LEGO character. His dad and grandfather hype him up as the crowd sings “Happy Birthday.”

Wade has four children: Zaire, 20, Zaya, 15, Xavier, 9, and his youngest, Kaavia, 4.

The story around Métoyer and Wade’s botched relationship went public when the news of her pregnancy hit the media in 2013. Métoyer became pregnant while Wade was allegedly on a break from a romantic relationship with Gabrielle Union. Wade proposed to Union in December 2014 after their brief split.

Métoyer told her side of the “break baby” fiasco when she was cast on the sixth season of VH1’s Basketball Wives in 2017. As the story unraveled, the circumstances caused some to view Métoyer as a “homewrecker.”

According to OK magazine, the reality star knew Wade for 10 years before their brief relationship. They found themselves single simultaneously, and a quick fling resulted in their son. Although the timing looked bad, Métoyer stuck to her story of not being “the other woman.”

“I think that a little bit of mathematics needs to be done. I’ve known the person 10 years,” Métoyer said, according to OK. “My son is not a break baby. He’s almost four. Do the math.”

Métoyer has two older children with her ex-childhood sweetheart, Damon Wayans Jr.

In Gabrielle Union’s 2021 memoir, You Got Anything Stronger?, the actor mentioned the toll that the child’s birth took on her.

Union recalled how she thought her fertility issues possibly caused a rift between her and her husband.

“The experience of Dwyane having a baby so easily — while I was unable to — left my soul not just broken into pieces, but shattered into fine dust scattering in the wind,” Union wrote.

“I can never know if my failure to carry a child put a ceiling on the love my husband has for me,” she continued. “Yes, I am Baby Mama number three, a label that is supposed to be an insult.”

Wade and Union went on to have their daughter, Kaavia, through surrogacy.

Wade shares his oldest two children with his high school sweetheart, Siohvaughn Funches.

Funches and Wade wed in 2002, shortly before Wade entered the NBA. The couple filed for divorce in 2007, with Wade gaining sole custody of their children.
