Eddie Cibrian seems to be becoming the go-to white guy for black films/TV shows these days. If you’re making a film, or TV series with a majority black cast, and you need one white guy, Eddie Cibrian might be your man, and he may have Tyler Perry to thank, in part, for that.

And in anticipation of comments saying that Eddie Cibrian isn’t white… yes, I know he’s of Cuban ancestry. But, like William Levy, who’s also Cuban-American, in the eyes of Hollywood studio executives, directors, producers, casting directors, and even audiences, these are white men, and are cast as such. It’s not about what they are in real life; it’s the characters that they play or represent on screen.

I don’t make the rules.

But Cibrian’s recent resume includes roles in TD Jakes’ Not Easily Broken, 3 different Tyler Perry projects – Good Deeds, For Better Or Worse, and he’ll co-star in the upcoming Single Moms Club (I guess Perry is a fan) – and he’s now been cast in Malcolm D. Lee’s sequel to The Best Man, The Best Man Holiday.

However, his role in the film is currently being kept under wraps by Universal. So let the speculation begin! I say that there’s very likely an interracial romance in the film, and Cibrian will play one half of that couple.

What else could it be – especially since Universal has opted to keep the role a secret for now, and also given the limited description we currently have of what the sequel’s story will be?

When the college friends finally reunite over the Christmas holidays, 15 years after the first film, they will discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be ignited.

Cibrian joins Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau,Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan,Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall who are all reprising their roles in a story that is set 15 years after the original.

Universal Pictures has set the release date for the sequel for Friday, November 15, 2013.
