Edi Gathegi has joined John Travolta, Michael Pitt and Dan Stevens in an indie thriller titled Criminal Activities, which will be actor Jackie Earle Haley’s directorial debut.
The Capacity Pictures, Phoenix Rising Motion Pictures and Producer Capital Fund project centers on four young men who reunite at a former classmate’s funeral. During the service, one of them shares some Wall Street insider knowledge that the group sees as a chance to make them millionaires. Unfortunately, the deal goes bad, of course, and they lose their investment, which is particularly bad news for one of them, since he borrowed his share from a mobster, who naturally wants his money back, and likely with interest.
No word on what character Gathegi has signed up to play, but I’ll take a guess and say that he’s one of the 4 young men. I’ll go even further and say that Travolta is likely the mobster.
First-time director Haley will kick off shooting in Cleveland this June.
Next TV season, Gathegi will co-star in TNT’s new supernatural drama series Proof, which stars Jennifer Beals as a brilliant but somewhat jaded female surgeon, still struggling with the devastating death of her son, who begins investigating cases concerning reincarnations, haunting, out-of-body experiences, and other supernatural phenomena. Gathegi plays a Sudanese hospital intern tasked with finding proof of life after death.
