As nuanced, diverse, and non-homogeneous as the black community is, as far as films go, I think it's pretty safe to say that the movie "The Color Purple" is an undisputed cultural staple. That's why when actress Elizabeth Banks made the claim that Hollywood powerhouse director Steven Spielberg has "never made a movie with a female lead," Black Twitter came hard with a collective 'no ma'am, not today.'

As reported by The Wrap, the actresses remarks came at the Beverly Hilton while accepting an award from non-profit group, Women in Film. In an attempt to highlight the lack of female narratives in film Banks said, "I went to 'Indiana Jones' and "Jaws' and every movie Steven Spielberg ever made, and by the way, he's never made a movie with a female lead. Sorry, Steven. I don't mean to call your ass out but it's true."

Banks wasn't the only one that had something negative to say. Film critic Anne Thompson pulled out her trigger fingers and found the energy to call The Color Purple "a flop."

Elizabeth Banks' assertion that Spielberg has never made a film staring a female lead is factually incorrect and also understandably triggering for many in the black community who are beyond fed up with the lack of intersectionality persistently displayed in white feminism. Her attempted clap was swiftly clapped back as Twitter came with receipts for her perceived non-intersectional feminist politics.

Our fave Crissle led the charge.

She continued with the facts and the receipts.

Could it be a case of selective amnesia?

We don't want to hear about this ever again (in Drake voice)

As is often the case when it comes to perceived allyship or lack there of, when it comes to Banks' misinformed statement and Spielberg's contributions…it's complicated.
