Blair Underwood has found love again, this time in a familiar place. The Hollywood veteran announced his engagement to long-time friend Josie Hart on Nov. 22. He and Hart have been friends for over 41 years. The actor made his red carpet debut with his friend-turned-fiance at the 50th International Emmy Awards. Underwood introduced the world to his new love through an Instagram post.

Underwood was at the Emmy’s to present the When They See Us director, Ava DuVernay, with the International Emmys’ Founders Award. In his Instagram post, he said walking the red carpet with his new fiancee was his “personal highlight” of the night.

“My personal highlight was walking the red carpet with my new fiancée, Josie Hart. The most amazing, brilliant, beautiful, hilarious, thought-provoking and insightful person I know who continuously lives life out loud.”

The 58-year-old actor acknowledged that Hart has been there for him since the beginning of his career.

“The future is crazy-bright Girl! None of us ever know where God will guide our paths. She’s had my back since before I even became an actor. When a 41 year friendship slaps you in the back of the head & blossoms into romance, you stand up, pay attention & step forward in gratitude. Gently forward. It begins! #trinilife,” Underwood wrote.

This was the couple’s first appearance together, so it is unknown when Underwood officially popped the question.

Hart is the ex-wife of Republican U.S. Congressman Burgess Owens. She and the ex-NFL player turned Utah politician share six children. They divorced in 2012.

Underwood announced the end of his marriage to Desiree DaCosta in May 2021. The two released a joint statement about their decision to end things after 27 years.

“After a tremendous amount of thought, prayer & work on ourselves individually & collectively, we have come to the conclusion to end our marriage that began 27 years ago,” the statement read. “It has truly been a beautiful journey. Our proudest achievements are our three incredible children. Three souls to which God entrusted us. We continue to be awed & humbled by the blessings of parenting. We have always put their best interests first & will continue to do so. We will continue to be the best of friends and co-parents and have the utmost respect for one another as we embark upon this new chapter of our lives, separately.”

Underwood and DeCosta have three children together — Paris, 25, Brielle, 23, and Blake, 21.

Congratulations to Blair and Josie for finding new love within each other.
