Ryan Coogler’s much-anticipated “Black Panther” movie is still almost 2 years away from its release, but Marvel wants to make sure that audiences (especially those who aren’t familiar enough with the character and his universe) are properly versed before February 2018.

To that end, in addition to Atlantic columnist Ta-Nehisi Coates’ rebooted Black Panther comic book series (the first 2 issues are already out), Marvel also launched a new video series a month ago, breaking down the African superhero’s world as “re-created” by Coates.

But that’s not all… Today,  the studio has released a new video titled “10 Facts about Black Panther” for the uninitiated; likely the first of another series of videos featuring facts about the Wakandan native. Surely, by the time February 2018 arrives, most audiences will be intimately familiar with the character. It’s almost as if Marvel is a bit worried about how the film – which will likely be the most expensive studio-backed movie centered on a black superhero – will be received by general audiences when it’s eventually released.

I fully expect that we’ll see a first teaser for the film before this year ends.

Coogler’s film will star Chadwick Boseman, with Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan also attached, although we don’t yet know what roles either will play.

Specific details on what story the film will tell, and what characters will make up the rest of the starring cast, are still unknown at this point. But with Coates involved in the overall writing process, I assume the content of the comic book series will serve as a source for the screenplay that will become the film, which is all incredibly exciting!
