Aaron McGruder and Will Packer are teaming up for what is described as an “alternate universe” series in the mold of Amazon’s “The Man in the High Castle” – the dystopian drama that is loosely based on the 1962 novel of the same name by author Philip K. Dick.

The McGruder/Packer project is also set up at Amazon Studios although plot details on the untitled series are currently being kept under wraps, so there’s nothing further to report at this time.

McGruder is best known for creating the animated TV series “The Boondocks,” which won him a Peabody Award, and the live-action Adult Swim comedy series “Black Jesus.”

Super producer Packer continues to build his growing, evolving and varied film & TV portfolio, with “Ride Along 3,” “Girls Trip,” “Jacob’s Ladder” and more on his upcoming slate.

This pairing of McGruder and Packer for an “alternate universe” series for Amazon Studios is certainly something to watch as progress is made, especially considering McGruder’s style and sensibilities. There’s certainly a lot of real-life inspiration for a dystopian series to be found in our current political climate.
