At today’s ABC Television Network upfront presentation, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey announced that the network has picked up a new drama straight-to-series from Shondaland, which is essentially a spin-off of “Grey’s Anatomy,” the long-running Shondaland ABC series.

Set in a Seattle firehouse, the latest series from the executive producers of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder” follows a group of heroic firefighters. From the captain to the newest recruit, audiences will follow these brave men and women as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock.

“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and ‘Grey’s’ signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” said Dungey.

Stacy McKee will write the script for the project and executive produce the series. Shonda Rhimes and her Shondaland partner Betsy Beers will executive produce.

The series will be produced by ABC Studios.

Two Shondaland series will be leaving ABC – “The Catch” has been canceled, and next season will be “Scandal’s” last; also Shondaland will premiere a new series on ABC in the fall, the legal drama “For the People.” No word on when we can expect this “Grey’s” spinoff series.
