Afton Williamson, who starred in VH1’s television movie and short-lived series, The Breaks, had been cast in a key role for an upcoming ABC drama.
She will co-star opposite Nathan Fillion in The Rookie. Eric Winter also was announced as a main cast member on Wednesday.
Described as a “light crime drama” the series, from former Castle showrunner Alexi Hawley, has a straight-to-series order from ABC.
The description: Inspired by a true story, “The Rookie” follows John Nolan (Fillion), the oldest rookie in the LAPD. At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small-town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a cop. Now, surrounded by rookies twenty years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a “young” cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.
Williamson will play his newly-appointed partner, Talia Bishop.
The Breaks was set to move from VH1 to its sister network, BET, but those plans were scrapped. Williamson has had recurring roles in Homeland, Nashville and The Night Of.
