Ain’t Too Proud will tell the story about the rise of The Temptations, including renditions of many of the group’s most popular songs. As Playbill states, the musical stars Ephraim Sykes, Derrick Baskin, Jawan M. Jackson, Jeremy Pope and James Harkness, and the book will be written by Dominique Morisseau in her Broadway debut. Des McAnuff will direct, and Sergio Trujillo will oversee the musical’s choreography.
The show has had a long road toward its Broadway debut. According to Playbill, Ain’t Too Proud premiered in 2017 at the Berkeley Repertory Theater. It’s also played at venues across the country before landing its Broadway home, the Imperial Theatre. Ain’t Too Proud will debut on Broadway next spring.
Brooks has several film projects coming up, including Clemency with Alfre Woodard and Aldis Hodge, All the Little Things We Kill alongside Thirteen Reasons Why star Steven Silver and an untitled Chris Morris film with Snowfall‘s Malcolm M. Mays and fellow OITNB actor Curtiss Cook Jr.
