The special pandemic-themed episode of CBS’ All Rise is about to hit airwaves.

The episode, taped with teleconferencing technology like Zoom, WebEx and FaceTime, will air May 4 at 9 p.m. ET. The series is breaking ground during the time of the coronavirus with how it was remotely filmed and edited. It’s also providing the series with a way to continue the show that honors the spirit of the series.

As EP Len Goldstein said on a video conference call according to TV Line, leaving the series with its April 13 episode “didn’t quite feel like the exact way to end the season” in the midst of the pandemic.

“Because our show deals with the justice system and all sorts of issues that our characters face with the justice system, this lent itself in a way to tell a story about a contemporary issue, and what was more contemporary than this?” he said. “And because our characters are also a community of people that work together, in addition to just people who do their jobs, much like us and like anybody, we were guessing that they would be curious what was happening, and they wanted to check in with each other.”

As we reported in April, the episode will follow Simone Missick’s Judge Lola Carmichael as she attempts to try a case remotely. Meanwhile, her friends and colleagues are trying to find some semblance of normalcy during a completely abnormal time. According to the official description:

“After debating the merits of continuing their work during this time, Judge Benner (played by Marg Helgenberger) authorizes Lola to preside over a virtual trial that involves a dispute between brothers and a stolen car. Emily (Jessica Camacho) represents the defendant, a graffiti artist, and Mark (Wilson Bethel) prosecutes for the D.A.’s office, making the first time he tries a case in Lola’s ‘court.’

Elsewhere, Mark and Quinn (Lindsey Gort) continue to explore their romantic (and sexual) relationship while quarantined in separate homes; Judge Benner oversees court from afar and struggles to learn how to cook; and Sara (Lindsay Mendez) has to balance her day job with a new side hustle as a food delivery driver. Also, Luke (J. Alex Brinson) and Emily’s relationship is taxed by separation and germaphobe and type-A Sherri (Ruthie Ann Miles) contends with the new world (dis)order.”
