Anna Diop has been cast opposite Corey Hawkins in FOX’s "24: Legacy," a new installment of the Emmy Award-winning franchise most recently revived as the event series "24: Live Another Day," it was announced today by Fox Television Group.

The pilot will feature an all-new cast of characters while retaining the real-time, fast-paced format with split screens and interweaving storylines, with each episode representing one hour of an eventful day.

The project will revolve around Corey Hawkins as a military hero named Eric Carter, who returns to the U.S. with some trouble that follows him back, compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

Diop ("The Messengers," "Quantico," "Greenleaf") has been cast as Hawkins’ wife Nicole Carter, in what is expected to be a significant role, just as Jack Bauer’s wife was in the original series that starred Kiefer Sutherland.

Also cast is Miranda Otto ("Homeland") who will play Rebecca Ingram, the former head of CTU, struggling with having left the counter-terrorism unit.

Before Hawkins was cast, it was announced that that the starring role was conceived as an African American man.

I’m sure Fox is well-award that it’s found *some* success with new series starring black characters, and thus continues to build on that, with even more new series starring black actors. 

Originally premiering on November 6, 2001, the most recent chapter in the "24" franchise, "24: Live Another Day," was a 12-episode event series that premiered in the summer of 2014 on FOX, reuniting series stars Sutherland, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kim Raver and William Devane. Gbenga Akinnagbe also co-starred. The series was both a critical and ratings hit, garnering three Emmy Awards.
