AMC+ will air the British limited series Anne Boleyn starring Jodie Turner-Smith. The series will debut as an AMC+ Original Series Dec. 9, with the final two episodes premiering consecutive Thursdays.
As previously reported, the series will take a look at Boleyn’s final months as the wife of Henry VIII (Mark Stanley) and the horror she endures under the king’s insistence on a son. According to the official description:
“The drama explores the final months of Anne Boleyn’s life from the eponymous Queen’s perspective, as she struggles to secure a future for her daughter and to challenge the powerful patriarchy closing in around her. Anne Boleyn depicts the key moments that cause Anne to topple, unpicking her immense strength, her fatal vulnerabilities and her determination to be an equal among men.”
The series also stars Paapa Essideu as Boleyn’s brother and court nobleman George Boleyn, Lola Petticrew as Henry VIII’s mistress Jane Seymour, Barry Ward as the king’s advisor Thomas Cromwell, Jamael Westman as Jane Seymour’s brother Edward, Amanda Burton as the governess Lady Anne Shelton, and Thalissa Teixeira as Boleyn’s cousin and confidant Madge Shelton. The series was written by Eve Hedderwick Turner and directed by Lynsey Miller.
Courtney Thomasma, AMC+ general manger, said the streamer is happy to add the series to its lineup of content.
“We are proud to add Anne Boleyn to our slate of AMC+ Original Series,” Thomasma said. “Featuring a superb ensemble cast led by Jodie Turner-Smith‘s mesmerizing performance and a predominantly female creative team, this groundbreaking drama, told from the unique perspective of one of history’s most fascinating – and scrutinized – women, makes for a can’t-miss television event to end the year.”
Fable Pictures’ Faye Ward and Hannah Farrell also said in a statement how they are happy to bring the series to the U.S. through AMC+.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with AMC – the home of many visionary shows that have inspired us over the years,” said the producers. “Jodie Turner-Smith is mesmerizing as Anne Boleyn and we can’t wait for audiences to see her exploding the myths around one of England’s most notorious queens.”
