The night before Audra McDonald’s "Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill" premiered on HBO, the 6-time Tony award winner appeared on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" during which she talked about how she prepped for playing Billie Holiday for "Lady Day," as well as her views about diversity on Broadway and Hollywood, and the importance of how the upcoming Broadway musical she co-stars in (with Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, Brandon Victor Dixon and Joshua Henry), "Shuffle Along," fits into that ongoing narrative.

Watching this, I realized that I’ve rarely seen her do late night talk shows over the years, so this was kind of a rare treat.
