With the recent news that the 91st Academy Awards might go on without a host after Kevin Hart stepped down from the job after refusing to apologie for homophobic tweets and jokes, Whoopi Goldberg is offering to take his place.
During a roundtable discussion on The View on Thursday, Goldberg offered her two cents on the controversy.
“If you want to go host-less, that’s your prerogative,” she said. “I think it’s a dumb idea because people need somebody to take them through things and to take care of things when they happen. Now I realize I may not be anybody’s first choice, but….” The actress then coyly looked at the camera, hinting that she would be more than welcome at returning as Oscar’s host.
Goldberg hosted the Academy Awards in 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2002. Goldberg was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1985 for her role as Celie in The Color Purple and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1990 for her role as Oda Mae Brown in Ghost.
Also, one of the most popular filmmakers of the moment has co-signed her as the host.
