The BBC continues to build on the public commitment it made to diversity a couple of years ago, in terms of both the content it produces, as well as within its corporate structure. Announced this morning, subsidiary BBC Studios has appointed a new Diversity Lead in Miranda Wayland, whose role will be to spearhead the studio’s production arm’s diversity strategy and ensure that BBC Studios’ people and programs continue to properly reflect and represent the UK.

BBC Studios is a division of the BBC, which brings together the majority of the former BBC Television division’s in-house production departments: Comedy, Drama (both combined as Scripted in the new division), Entertainment, Music & Events, and Factual.

Miranda joins BBC Studios from fellow UK broadcaster ITV, where she was instrumental to defining their diversity strategy, increasing on and off screen representation and introducing highly effective initiatives that supported key business objectives. Through her involvement with Creative Diversity Network (CDN), Miranda has experience working with the BBC, Channel 4, Sky, and independent production companies to make progress across the sector.

In her new role, Wayland will report directly to Tunde Ogungbesan, the BBC’s Head of Diversity and Inclusion, and will work closely with BBC Studios’ Chief Operating Officer, Anna Mallett and HR Director, Jabbar Sardar.
