BBC Two has today announced three further comedy sitcoms for the “New on Two” strand airing next month as part of the BBC Landmark Sitcom Season.

Of note, given this blog’s specific interests, is “The Coopers Vs The Rest,” written by award-winning writer Andy Wolton, starring Paterson Joseph, Tanya Franks, Erin Kellyman, India Brown and Joseph West in a series about a multiracial family.

Husband and wife Toby (Paterson Joseph) and Tess (Tanya Franks),  determined to save as many kids as they can from the kind of childhood they had, now divide just about enough money and nowhere near enough time between their three adopted children, Frankie (Erin Kellyman), Alisha (India Brown) and Charlie (Joseph West).

Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning, BBC, says that the sitcom underpins “BBC Two’s comedy reputation for the eclectic and diverse,” calling the series “sharply written and terrifically cast… with a very contemporary heart…”

BBC Studios is producing, with Declan Lowney directing.

The executive producer is Stephen McCrum.

“The Coopers Vs The Rest” joins “Our Ex Wife,” “We The Jury,” “Home From Home” and “Motherland” as five brand new sitcoms that will be part of the BBC Landmark Sitcom Season celebrating the heritage and legacy of comedy over the past 60 years. The season across BBC One, Two and Four will be also be revisiting some of Britain’s most-loved and iconic sitcoms such as “Porridge,” “Young Hyacinth,” “Goodnight Sweetheart” and “Are You Being Served?”

The BBC Landmark Sitcom Season will start next month.
