In a cover of Kirk Franklin’s “Brighter Day,” the Belmont University Choir Deserves major praise.

The school choir, under the direction of their music teacher Brian Nathan, did not keep things traditional at all, but honestly, they have an incredible sound. The song quickly gained significant popularity as soon as Nathan uploaded the video to TikTok. The fact that the majority of the choir was white was something that many people found hard to believe, but hey, they rocked with it.

The instructor remarked in the caption that his class “absolutely fell in love” with the song after learning it. Their enthusiasm was palpable, and there was no doubt that they were feeling it.

To date, the video has amassed nearly 890,000 views on Twitter, having already garnered 460,000 on TikTok. The feedback on both channels was comparable, but Twitter definitely upped the ante by including GIFS and entertaining videos that users related to.

The hilarious comment “I’m hearing my people, but I’m not seeing my people” was posted by one user on TikTok.

“You did this for the CULTURE!” exclaimed another TikToker, “&  I just can’t thank you enough 🥰🥰🥰🥰,” she added.

The responses poured in on Twitter as well. When another user saw the drummer’s expression, he had instant faith in his abilities and posted a screenshot of him with a witty caption.

Someone else on Twitter was neither amused nor entertained, and they thought the song should not have been sung by the mostly white choir because it is Black spiritual music and is therefore “off limits.”

A young woman disagreed with his comment and courteously tried to correct him.   Some agreed with her, while others didn’t.

What did you guys think of the clip? Do you consider it inappropriate for them to perform Black Gospel music?
