With BET ushering in a new era and continuing to firm up its slate of new, scripted programming, the leads of the upcoming drama series, Games Divas Play (working title), have been cast.

The series, which began production late last month, has cast Lauren London, Parker McKenna Posey and Karen Obilom. The show, which as a season order of 10 episodes, is set to premiere next year.

It is based on the book of the same name by Angela Burt-Murray and is “a sexy, stylized drama about the L.A. high life, where everyone plays to win. A desperate basketball wife (London) trying to protect her family, a tenacious journalist (Obilom) struggling to rebuild a tarnished career, and a scandalous groupie (Posey) looking to become a star, find it’s murder trying to stay on top.”

The official character descriptions:

Vanessa King (London) is a loyal yet skeptical wife, who married her high school sweetheart as he was being drafted into the nation’s premier professional basketball league. Her lifestyle changed overnight as they went from college sweethearts to a power couple astride a world of money, easy sex, and glamour.

Laila James (Posey) is a cunning and alluring, yet struggling actress. When she realizes that she’s never going to get ahead based on pure talent, she decides to embrace her sexy, flashy side to get ahead on social media. She finds that in LA, fame is the ultimate drug.

Nia Bullock (Obilom) is a quick-witted, smart and savvy blogger, who gets a new job that she thinks is going to launch her long-dreamed-of journalism career. But as it turns out, this new job pulls her into the world of celebrity gossip – big names, high stakes, and never-ending scandal.

Soul Food (movie and film) producer and former Extra host Tracey Edmonds is an executive producer alongside Murray. Vanessa Middleton, who wrote the pilot, is an executive producer and co-showrunner. Kim Newton is also an executive producer and co-showrunner.

The series brings London back to BET, where she starred in The Game for two seasons. This will be Posey’s first major television role since she starred in My Wife and Kids as a child. Relative newcomer Obliom recently guest-starred on Insecure and NCIS: LA.

Games Divas Play will join fellow upcoming new series like Boomerang, American Soul, Peachtree Place.

Deadline first reported the castings.
