The 71st Annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards aired over two nights on Saturday (September 14) and Sunday (September 15), and it’s safe to say that the BeyHive is not pleased with the results as they relate to Queen Bey.
Sunday, it was announced that Beyoncé’s acclaimed music documentary, Homecoming, was snubbed and shut out of all six categories it was nominated for. Chief among them was the nomination in the Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) category, where it lost to James Corden’s special Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live from Liverpool on Saturday.
Beyoncé herself was nominated in three additional categories for Homecoming: Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Music Direction and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Show.
She lost the directing category to Springsteen on Broadway, the music direction category to Fosse/Verdon and the writing category to Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette.
Premiering on Netflix on April 17, 2019, Homecoming chronicled Beyoncé’s preparation leading up to her historic performance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, coined by many as “Beychella.” The film, the subject of mass acclaim from critics and audiences alike, was crowned by many as the favorite to win in the categories it was nominated for.
