It’s official. After being rumored for some time, hit juggernaut Big Little Lies is returning for a second season on HBO.
The network announced that it will have a 7-episode second season.
Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are confirmed to return as stars and producers.
No other cast members have been confirmed, but most are expected to return, including Zoë Kravitz as Bonnie.
The entire first season was primarily based on the book by Liane Moriarty. David E. Kelley will write the script based on new source material by Moriarty.
“I’m thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists. It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them. I’m beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm. Andrea’s unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team,” said Witherspoon.
In addition, per Vulture, four new cast members will be added, including her parents. Casting is underway for the roles now. Here are the descriptions: Bonnie’s parents, Elizabeth and Martin Howard. Elizabeth is described as someone who has passed on her outwardly Zen qualities to her daughter Bonnie, but ultimately reveals herself to be controlling and abusive. Martin is emotionally distant toward his daughter, but a family emergency forces him to address the strain between them.
