The 2014/15
Black Radical Imagination film series continues its current fall tour with a
screening at REDCAT in Los Angeles , showcasing new experimental and
Afro-futurist films from Ephraim Asili and Vashti Harrison, along with previous
works by John Akomfrah, Jeannette Ehlers, Lauren Kelley, Lewis Vaughn, Terence
Nance, Sanford Biggers and Vashti Harrison

Programmed
by Chicago-based filmmaker Amir George and L.A. based curator Erin Christovale,
the goal of Black Radical imagination, according to both George and
Christovale, is "to invoke a
futurist aesthetic of the black image on screen. The visual pieces delve into
the worlds of video art, film animation, narrative storytelling, and new media.
Each artist contributes their own vision of a free changing world in a
postmodern society."

They go
further to say that “focusing on new
stories within the diaspora, each artist contributes their own vision about
post-modern society through the state of current black culture. An artistic
movement and school of thought, Black Radical Imagination focuses on the
aesthetics of futurism, surrealism, and the magnificent through the context of
cinema."

The films at
the REDCAST screening will be  Moonrising
Nance and Biggers),  Moonrising, Black
Bullets (Ehlers), Black Magic at the White House (Ehlers),  The Baptist (Vaughn), Memory Room 451 (Akomfrah),
Get the Bones from 88 Jones because She Also Eats Meat (Kelly) and Field Notes
(Harrison) which also won the Best Short Film Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival

Curators
Christovale and George, lecturer Martine Syms, filmmaker Vashti Harrison will
be in person for the screening which takes place at REDCAT in the Roy and Edna
Disney/CalArts Theater on Monday Nov. 10 starting at 8:30PM
