Following her turns in Spider-Man: Homecoming and BlacKkKlansman, Laura Harrier is entering the realm of science fiction.

Variety is reporting that Harrier is set to star alongside Aladdin star Mena Massoud n the science fiction drama Warning.

Based on an original screenplay by scribe Agata Alexander, the project is slated to start filming in Romania. In the vein of the Netflix anthology series Black Mirror, Warning will interweave stories set in the near future. The show will cover some existentialist themes such as “death and the meaning of life.” Alexander is set to direct in what will be her feature film directorial debut

With Harrier’s casting, viewers are seeing a trend in which black actresses are getting plum roles in sci-fi properties in mainstream film and television. Other examples include Amandla Stenberg’s role the YA drama The Darkest Minds and Gugu-Mbatha Raw and Lorraine Toussaint in the highly anticipated sci-fi family drama, Fast Color.
