Blumhouse Productions, the company behind Jordan Peele’s horror film “Get Out,” has now put its horror movie-making muscle behind “Sleight” director J.D. Dillard’s follow-up, “Sweetheart,” and has tapped Kiersey Clemons to star.
Plot details are being kept underwraps for now, except for mention of the project’s sub-genre – survival-horror.
Dillard will direct from a script he co-wrote with his “Sleight” writing partner Alex Theurer, as well Alex Hyner. All 3 will also produce along with Jason Blum and Bill Karesh of Blumhouse.
Production on “Sweetheart” is being fast-track for a Spring 2017 start date.
Kiersey Clemons is busy, appearing in as many as 5 films this year, including a remake of “Flatliners,” and the “Justice League” movie in which she’ll make her debut as Iris West – the character she’ll play in “The Flash” which is set for a 2018 release.
Meanwhile, J.D. Dillard’s “Sleight” (a 2016 Sundance Film Festival selection, which was picked up for distribution by WWE Studios and Blumhouse) is set for an April 7, 2017 theatrical release. Jacob Latimore stars in the sci-fi drama about a young street magician who is left to care for his little sister after their parents’ passing and turns to illegal activities to keep a roof over their heads.
Dillard is certainly a genre filmmaker to watch.
