On My Block star Brett Gray revealed that the series’ most recent cliffhanger was something that shocked the actors as well as the audience. Gray stopped by to chat with Shadow and Act for a recent episode of Shadow and Act Live.
“We have no idea ever what is about to happen,” he explained. They gave us episodes one through six this season. The week before we shot [episode seven], they gave us [the episode seven script] and then the week before we shot [episode eight], they gave us [episode eight’s script], all except for the last three pages. So we didn’t know that the flash-forward was happening maybe two days before we shot it.”
Brett said the writers keep the actors “completely in the dark” about plot twists.
“They don’t want us to give way anything,” he continued. “They don’t want us to act as if we are planning in the performance [of] certain things. They always catch us by surprise…I love it because it keeps us engaged as actors. It almost feels like we’re audience members too.”
