Regé-Jean Page’s exit from Bridgerton shocked die-hard fans, but now Page is hinting that he might make an appearance in the upcoming second season.
Deadline reports that Page spoke to British GQ and gave fans a possible tease at the Duke of Hastings making a return. When the outlet asked about a cameo, he said, “I couldn’t possibly tell you!” He also added after being pressed for more details, “Isn’t there something wonderful about being surprised by what you weren’t suspecting?”
So far, Netflix hasn’t give any comment as to Page returning for a cameo. But fans would love to see the Duke of Hastings once again. The character turned Bridgerton into a worldwide phenomenon. However, Page decided to leave the series to focus more on his film career. Page’s decision came despite Page being offered a pay increase of $50,000 an episode.
Page’s popularity came as a surprise to executive producer Shonda Rhimes, who said she usually gets a viral reaction from fans after she’s killed off a character.
“I was really shocked because usually, that happens when I’ve killed off somebody that’s been around for a while,” she said. “Like, we didn’t kill him, he’s still alive!” she said. “[Page] is a powerful, amazing actor and that meant we did our job–every season, our job is finding the right people and putting together this incredible, world-shifting romance.”
After Bridgerton, Page has landed his first lead studio film role in the reboot of The Saint. He will also star in the Dungeons & Dragons film adaptation and Netflix’s The Grey Man. Page also reached the top of the list of stars fans wanted to see play James Bond.
