Wendy Williams‘ former boss, Urban One (fka Radio One) founder Cathy Hughes, is coming out against the depiction of her in Lifetime’s Wendy Williams: The Movie.
According to The Jasmine Brand, Hughes spoke out about her depiction on The Ricky Smiley Morning Show, saying that the film told complete lies about her. In the film, Hughes is depicted as a chain smoker who belittled Williams while she worked at the company, then called Radio One.
“That was who it was supposed to be,” she said. “I don’t know what’s wrong with Wendy’s memory because as much as I smoked, I have never ever smoked a cigarette in any of my studios.” She went on to say she remembered when Williams was interviewing Snoop Dogg for her radio show When Hughes walked by, Williams told Snoop Dogg, who was smoking at the time, to stop smoking because of how Hughes ran her company. Hughes also said that at the time, radio stations could lose their license over smoking.
“Wendy was talking about I threw her out like trash,” she continued. “That’s not true. I helped Wendy get a better-paying job.”
Hughes also said that Williams is back at Urban One, since Cleo TV is owned by Urban One. You can listen to the entire segment below.
Williams is no stranger to controversy, but she has been hot water with Joseline Hernandez lately. The Joseline’s Cabaret star appeared on Williams’ TV show to promote her new series on Zeus, leading to an awkward and contentious interview with Hernandez telling Williams that she deserved respect from Williams instead of judgment. The Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard Bassett took Hernandez to task for her comments to Williams, with Hernandez responding on Instagram, saying, “You mean to tell me [you put on] a face full of makeup just to say this? Paid 300 just to talk about me. Girl mind your business.”
Williams is also not in the good graces of Dionne Warwick, who has repeatedly called Williams out on Twitter for bringing up Warwick’s past alleged drug use. In March, Shadow And Act reported that Warwick said to Page Six that she’s planning on creating her own talk show, telling the outlet, “I’m going to try to invade” Williams’ television lane “very soon…it’ll be fun. I’m gonna make it fun.”
