With NBC releasing the first 10 minutes of highly-anticipated drama series, Manifest, and CBS’ God Friended Me announcement, it looks like the broadcast networks are shaking things up when it comes to attracting and retaining viewers for its upcoming fall slate.
The Brandon Michael Hall (The Mayor)-led light (and humorous, yet deep) drama, God Friended Me, will debut Friday on Twitter, Facebook Premieres, Instagram’s IGTV, CBS All Access, and CBS.com.
“This is a show that deserves advance exposure. Once people see God Friended Me, they respond to its positive and life-affirming values. Our marketing strategy is to get it previewed a full month early – free and uninterrupted – so viewers can sample it for themselves and help spread the word to friends and family before the broadcast premiere,” said George Schweitzer, President, CBS Marketing Group.
I’ve already had the opportunity to screen most of this season’s new shows, and the pilot for God Friended Me is an incredibly strong offering and my favorite out of what I’ve seen. It’s anchored by another great lead performance by Brandon Michael Hall who was amazing in the underseen who gets to show his chops alongside veteran actor Joe Morton.
God Friended Me is a humorous, uplifting drama about Miles Finer, an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from “God” and unwittingly becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him. The series stars Brandon Micheal Hall as Miles, along with Violett Beane, Suraj Sharma, Javicia Leslie and Joe Morton.
The show is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. The series was created by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt and is executive produced by Lilien, Wynbrandt, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Marcos Siega.
