Shadow and Act has an exclusive clip from the documentary Charm City.

The film, which was on the festival circuit earlier this year, shows the human side of three years of unparalleled violence in Baltimore in the lead up to and in the wake of Freddie Gray’s tragic death.

One of the film’s subjects is Captain Monique Brown, a 16-year police veteran. She knows what it’s like to grow up on the streets and faces both prejudice within a corrupt police force and suspicion in her own community.

Charm City opens in theaters Oct. 17.
